Makes a sturdy fireplace mantel
Makes an excellent fireplace mantel. I purchased an electric linear fireplace for my granddaughter’s family. She and I installed the fireplace and the shelf. Their home is contemporary and these added flair and function to the open floor plan. The shelf was easy to install and very sturdy. My granddaughter immediately placed Christmas decor on the shelf. If you want to use a shelf above your fireplace, the shelf should be longer than the fireplace. The fireplace we installed is 41″ and the shelf 48″. Again, this shelf is thick wide and sturdy.

They are thick and very nice. Lightly textured so gives a true faux wood feel. Unfortunately tho I wouldn’t put books on them because they don’t feel truly sturdy

Mounting Hardware Inferior!
I would have given this produce 5 stars because the floating shelves themselves are very nice! However, the supporting hardware that comes with them is inferior. The sheetrock inserts secure tightly into the wall. However, when you fasten the bracket with the screws the screws typically fail to tighten and are loose. The floating shelf/s are wobbly & not properly secured to the wall. If you do not have a stud/s available to secure the bracket/s to, like in my case, which is a strong possibility because the shelves are not too wide, then you will need to purchase much better quality mounting hardware to support the weight. I had strong 1/4 20 Sheetrock hardware but the screws were too big to fit in the slots so I had to increase the slot size with a jig saw. I ordered smaller 3/16 hardware and hopefully this size will be better suited for the remaining shelves I still need to install. The manufacturer should upgrade the supporting hardware to properly support the shelves & the items resting on them.

The look we were going for. They are not wood, and are quite lightweight, so these shelves are not meant to hold much for weight, so keep that in mind with decor items.
